Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit...

It was, I know, too good to last. For the last few weeks, the garden's been bedecked with colour: sapphire, amethyst, garnet and gold, as pretty as a book of hours. This unusual state of affairs has been down to a distinct lack of rabbits, only a few rather haggard individuals having survived the winter. The pest control officer tells me they've been hit by a disease, not mixy but something equally fatal.
Alas, poor rabbits. I almost felt sorry for them, but the memory of the marmalised espaliers is still too fresh. And now, they're back!
Yesterday morning, there they were, four baby buns. Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail and Dough Head (there's always one).
Yes, they're cute. No, they haven't started on the flowers (yet). But we all know that they will breed like, well, like rabbits.

Dear God, please grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.

I love rabbits but then again I am not plagued with them and can understand your frustration. I guess if I was in your position I'd go off them quickly

Izzy, your garden looks like Benmore. Very impressive. Rabbits? Maybe you need a dog - whippet or greyhound recommended!

Hi, GLA. I love rabbits too, they are very tasty. Hope you're not a very sensitive vegetarian, I'm too much of a softie to have the killer instinct.
Mal, you old flatterer, it's all in the editing. The plants pictured are pulmonaria, hellebore and corylopsis, all tried and tested rabbit proof. Have thought of getting a dog, but not 100% sure.

I have been blessed in not having to worry about rabbits and am grateful as I don't know if I could remain angry with them for long..... sweet furry, floppy eared darlings that they are! I suppose if they'd eaten a new Meconopsis I might have a sudden change of heart! What is a gardener to do?

I'm saying this quietly so as not to tempt fate, I'm lucky in that I don't have rabbits on my allotment. It must be heartbreaking to see all your hard work decimated by them. My kids do have two pet ones though, but they're not allowed to do any damage.

Strangely, I am having rabbit and prunes for my dinner tonight. The body is currently in my fridge, wrapped in a cloak of celery and onion, floating in a sea of Guinness. I've never stewed Rabbit in stout before, but it coms recommended by none other than Norman "string 'em up" Tebbit.

Dear Barry and Jo may you always be so lucky. I guess it's swings and roundabouts as I do like seeing all the wildlife round here.
Dear Idiot, rabbit and prunes sounds delish. In the autumn the pigeons here gorge on elderberries and I wonder if that would flavour them
Dear Dene, at the risk of being a helle-bore, I'm well chuffed at having raised loads from seed this year. It is footery though and it'll be ages before they flower. Garden centres might have some good bargains for sale once they've finished flowering.
