It's a beautiful May evening, clear blue sky and only the faintest of breezes. This means a frost is likely so I went down to cover the hanging baskets with fleece. I shut Chocolate in the greenhouse as she seems to think billowing fabric is a big monster she needs to defend me against. She could be right. It took me an hour, there was just enough wind to make it awkward and I ended up looking like some nightmarish version of the dance of the seven veils.
We're all pretty tired now, just fifty more baskets to make and the golden moss to prick out and the summer bedding will be done. Yipee! I'm on watering duties this weekend, but I reckon I'll go mad and have a glass of wine. Slainte. Or wassail, as I believe they say down south .

I think Chocolate's got the right idea. I bought my bedding plants as plugs and have grown them on. I find it less faffy than starting from seed, especially as I have all my veggies growing from seed and lack of space. Good luck with getting those baskets planted up.

Fleece and a breeze is a bit of a laugh. It's even funnier once you've had a few. I spent a few hours the other night trying to fleece up the beans, and then, gues what? That's right, no frost!

Cheers chaps. After all that, we did have a frost and I found I'd forgotten to put my own dahlias back in the greenhouse after their first day of hardening off. But they're OK!
It's a similar night now so I'm off down to the nursery as otherwise I'll just worry.

What a phaff. But if there is a frost...

Nearly panicked into bringing all my beans indoors returning home at midnight last night. The thermometer showed 7C in the greenhouse having been down to 6 earlier. Slept soundly.

I'm bad with fleece. When its on I never take it off. Once removed I never put it on again. It's a lot to do with living several miles from my plot!! I have som coriander that germinated under fleece, but it was sharing the tunnel with two lots of peas. Once the supports went in for the peas the tunnel had to come off. I'll have to see if the coriander has survived! But I will put fleece back over it if it has, I promise...

At work I have to err on the side of caution. The troops would never forgive me if I let all their hard work go to waste.
