Memories Are Made Of This

Just a wee picture showing the overall layout of the annual border with the veg beds in the foreground.

Dearest Isobel, How wonderfully serene this all looks and so beautifully kept. Having such a splendid wall as a backdrop is, I feel, a tremendous advantage to the planting scheme and how handsome this wall looks!!

The walled garden is built from lovely old handmade bricks and dates from the 18th century. I've had a great time visiting architectural salvage yards looking for similar brick to edge the paths, we'll do that over the winter.

Dear Is the Wiz,
that looks fine! The mixture of useful + beautiful is so convincing.
In Germany my friend Anne had very long to search for a guy who was able to build a wall like yours (without mortar it is). She is the one who has some sheep, a cat, an old mill rebuilt (I wouldn't have dared to buy that ruin) - really great.
Have a good time! Britta

Anne's place sounds idyllic. I'm afraid what you think is a dry-stone wall is the beech hedge behind the flowers. High time I bought a decent camera!

Looks great Is, reminds me of my garden.....I wish!

Dear Damo, thank you. My own garden, alas, is a sad case of the cobbler's children. There's a seemingly never ending supply of slugs and now deer have taken to pruning the apple trees! (They're actually doing quite a good job of it)

Hi Izzy, Any jobs going? Despite being a strict vegetable grower, I'm very please with my pots (think hanging baskets on the ground) this year. All grown from seed except for the geraniums which were a plug plant magazine special offer. My enthusiasm for scabious might be a bit misplaced. Although very architectural they haven't had enough sun to flower yet...

Dear Mal, I'd love to employ you, if you can grow good veg, flowers are a doddle. Unfortunately I'll be lucky to keep my own job and all my minions' with the cuts and mergers which local government's planning.

Are they leeks in the foreground?

It just shows how nice a garden can look if you're a proper gardener!

Well spotted Id. Veg can look pretty too I feel, there's no law says you have to plant in straight lines.
