The Bard of Govan

Hello again, sorry it's been such a long time, but the talk is all about cuts and if I hear the phrase "tough decisions" once more I may forget I'm a lady. It's just too, too dismal for words. So I cheer myself up by singing a little ditty I once heard on a late night bus in Glasgow. I've translated it into English as well as I could, and I hope you get the gist.

I'm a wee, wee Weegie and true to my roots,
I love the clatter of tackety boots
And I still recall the last dying fall
Of the ships on the Clyde at New Year...
I'm a Red Clydesider, I stick to my guns
And I ne'er trouble trouble until trouble comes
But if you get my back up against a wall
I'll  "gie ye the nut", stick my knee in your balls
Cos I get a bit bolshy if you give me a fright
And in Glasgow even hippies have to learn how to fight
For we know about trouble, we know about grim
And we know that the main thing is never give in.
They can beat you, they can batter you,
You just keep coming back,
Keep your eye out for the weak spot then into attack.
And if your still defeated though you've tried your best
Remember - the greatest revenge is
Success!

If they try to cut you, just chin them!

By the by, how did the big talk go?

The talk went very well, thanks Id, they were a lovely audience, laughed in all the right places and they even PAID me! (£35, which works out at about £1 a minute) Sara Raven better watch out, all I need to do now is marry into the horticultural aristocracy and I'll be presenting Gardeners' World in no time;)

Dearest Isobel, I am so distressed for you and can only hope that your employment will be secure. You have so much responsibility and a regular job is so important. Your little song is, I hope, able to lift your spirits when you are particularly down, but I trust that the uncertainty will be over soon and that you can do what you love doing and in which you are clearly so highly capable.

Dearest Edith, Thank you so much, a little sympathy is very comforting. Home helps or hanging baskets, is as they say these days, a no-brainer, but it may not come to that. And que sera, sera, maybe sometimes we need to be pushed out of a comfy rut.

Hi Izzy, So glad to hear the talk went well. Winter seems interminable but spring always follows. So don't give up just yet.

(Did you see Still Game on home helps the other night!)

Cheers Mal, if I'm really honest I think its the thought of having to move house if the nursery closes, I've accumulated so much junk over the past 11 years! Anyways, looks like we've been given a stay of execution until the election next year, but cut by 50%. Can't stay up late enough for Still Game, cos I start work at 7.30. I think my favourite episode was the one with the devil dug.
