Little Gems

I went to draw the curtains to-night and was lured outside by a big yellow moon. Lliving here you are  free from light pollution; on a night  like this you grow dizzy as innumerable stars pull you through indescribable distances.
Best bit of to-day - the sight (and sound) of  two swans, wings beating in harmony, crossing a clear blue sky.

Dear Isobel, How lovely to live somewhere where there is no light pollution - increasingly rare - and where one is able to go out and look at the stars. Certainly not the case in either London or Budapest.

The swans flying across the sky must have been a wonderful - and also rare - sight.

Hi Izzy, there is something so magical about the moon isn't there, and I adore swans. I must go dig out some pics now. Any luck getting yours off your phone? oOo x

I remember many years ago I went to a reed bed somewhere in Norfolk. I was in a team of people doing some coppicing nearby. I took along a bottle of decent vodka, and we went and sat by the water as the sun set.

Just as the last red in the sky was fading, a flock of swans flew over. I'll never forget that sound; it was surreal, alien to my ear, but also hypnotically majestic.

It's a hard sound to describe, but I found it humbling. It serves to remind you that in the grand scheme of things, you're not as big a deal as you think you are!

I'm envious, I haven't heard it again since that day!

Dear Isobel, I did so want to comment on your picture of an enormous glasshouse, which I look on with awe and wonder, but for some reason the comment box was not working, at least not for me, so I am writing here. Are you in charge of all those seedlings? If so, how do you sleep at night. And what is to happen to them all? Whatever, I do trust that they grow, grow, grow, and BLOSSOM!
